About Hamilton Child Care Centre

Hamilton Child Care Centre is a non profit community owned long day care centre, which receives joint funding from the Federal and State Governments. As of 1995, 1998, 2001 and again in 2005 the centre has been Highly Accredited under the Commonwealth Government Quality Improvement and Accreditation System. The centre is licensed by the Department of Community Services to provide a high quality educational program for 33 children per day, from 6 weeks to 6 years of age.

Child Care Benefit is available to all families through the Family Assistance Office to assist with reducing the daily fee.

The daily fee for your child includes:

meals
children’s insurance
sunscreen
nappies
craft materials
and children’s entertainment.

The centre is managed by a Management Committee of interested parents and community representatives who meet on a monthly basis to ensure that the centre operates effectively and efficiently.

Our centre has adopted the Model of “Family Grouping”. This means that children from 6 weeks to school age are not separated and children are encouraged to see themselves as part of a larger community. The setting provides opportunities for children to remain with their siblings (if present at the centre) and entitles the children to learn with, and relate to, both older and younger peers. Babies have their own Nursery area to sleep in. Our situation within a Federation Style home, and the elements of Family Grouping create a genuine family atmosphere and home like environment.

During the day however, we also provide opportunities for the older and younger children to have time to themselves. Small group time and the provision of developmentally appropriate activities cater to the individual needs of each child.

We implement a full educational program that prepares children from 3-5 years for school.

Staff

Hamilton Child Care Centre is staffed by a professional team with a range of qualifications and experience. The staff consists of:

An Early Childhood Teacher (Director)
Advanced Qualified Child Care Workers
An Office Manager
Cook
and trained and untrained casual staff members with years of experience.

The centre also has a close community link with the Special Education Unit at the University of Newcastle and the Ethnic Community Council.
